It has been a manic past few weeks….I love my blog, so to neglect it for so long has been totally unintentional!
I will be starting my new job soon, so I have been super busy. Brendon is quite busy too with his studies. We hardly have time to just relax together anymore 😦
I have had a few days to finalise the last few wedding tasks….It has not been easy!
I got myself in a tizz last week when trying to decide between vases at the hiring company. Then the sight of flowers at the florist made my brain turn to mush…!!
A vase is a vase right? And flowers aren’t hard to pick right? WRONG.
Today is the day though – I have just confirmed my final order with the hiring company, and I am off to the florist to finalise with them now…
A few weeks ago, after searching for what feels like a year, I found my wedding shoes 🙂 Well, one pair that could be my wedding shoes…
I found them at the Errol Arendz sale. Gorgeous satin champagne coloured sandals!
Then the next day, I was casually walking around in the mall. I went into Truworths, SALE – the poster screamed out at me. And behold, I found teal satin sandals on sale! TEAL, our wedding colour, and on SALE. I bought them. Obviously.
Then one week went by, and I found the most beautiful satin champagne shoes at Aldo. I bought them (well, my husband-to-be paid).
Now I have 3 pairs of wedding shoes 🙂
A few days ago I was on a mission to find teal satin ribbon for the invitations. After 4 hours of driving up and down Cape Town, it seemed like Mission Impossible. Considering that this wasn’t the first time I was looking for this dreaded teal ribbon, I was beginning to lose hope!
Luckily, I managed to find the ribbon at the end of the day (probably at the 30th place I looked at). Teal ribbon is scratched off the list!
All my decor / DIY items have now been hired or bought.
New cupcake samples will be collected tomorrow, and invitations are going out this week!
We knew right from the get go that we wanted a superb wedding video. We spoke about watching it together with our kids in the future, and that made us smile 🙂
Now that I think about it, we actually booked our videographer before we even booked a reception venue, or the church..!!
Brendon and I have high expectations for our wedding video. We don’t want it to be cheesy or old fashioned, we want a modern approach with clean professional editing.
It took some good googling skills (mine of course), and after finding lots of boo boos, we found Alexander Productions. Their website captivated us immediately – Modern, fresh, fun, extremely professional. Their videos gave us goosebumps!
When we met up with the owner of the company, Andrew, we knew that this was it, this was the dude who was going to film our wedding!!
We enjoyed chatting with Andrew about his work and hearing about the editing process. We felt at ease with him and booked him as soon as we could!
Check these out (if you don’t feel any emotion while watching them, then you have a problem lol)
I am at a stage now where I can finally seriously think about my wedding hair and make up.
There are many things that you can plan a year in advance (like finding the perfect venue), but the little things like hair and make up, has to wait till the furthest possible time.
I’ve had a few ideas about the kind of ‘look’ I’d want for my wedding day. I am definitely leaning towards having my hair up, with my bridesmaids having their hair tied up somehow. Of course, Janeel has short hair, so I thought it would look odd if Caryn and Genine had their hair loose…
I am on the lookout for some cute hair diamante/pearls to complete our hairdos!
We are going to look so pretty 🙂
I came across an awesome website yesterday that allows women all over the world to design their own shoes, and have them made for you!
Imagine my delight and excitement at this discovery…I am still on cloud nine!
If you’ve been following my posts, you will know that from the start, finding wedding shoes has been a big thorn in my side.
I am very particular about the kind of shoes I want, and of course, the size of the heel. So Shoes of Prey has been a HUGE help for me. What an experience it is to design your own shoes online – you can choose the style, the heel height, fabric (silk / leather / patent / glitter)….Just to name a few! And they have colours for daaaays.
A total MUST SEE for all you shoe lovers!
I have designed a few shoes so far, and I may just go ahead and order it when I decide on the perfect wedding shoe! What’s holding me back? The price 😦
Its a bit over budget, but I may just be able to do it…Fingers crossed!
My last post was before the holidays, so here I am, getting back into it!
Welcome 2013! 🙂
We have just under 3 months left till our wedding! The nerves and excitement is starting to kick in…I still have a few things to tie up and I am running out of time…eeek!
Besides those few things, our checklist is almost complete!
We have begun looking around for apartments to rent. It is a fun process I guess, but stressful wondering if we’ll find the ‘right’ place in time. I don’t want to settle! We’ve only seen a few places, so I must keep my chin up and continue!
Over these past few weeks off work, I have designed my bridesmaids dresses, and our wedding invitation. Thats a few more things off the list, but I still have to find chiffon in the perfect shade of teal for the girls dresses… I will continue the search at the end of the month (my pocket is really empty!)
I am still on the lookout for my wedding shoes (what a nightmare!), and the bridesmaids dress fabric. Hopefully I will have these both done and dusted by the first week of February!
We will be meeting with our priest soon to discuss a few things and our order of service.
Lastly, Brendon needs to arrange store visits with his groomsmen for suit hire within the next few weeks.
Then we can sit back and relax till our big day arrives! (Well not actually, but we will try to relax!)
I am very excited for next year’s upcoming weddings – my cousin (and bridesmaid) Genine got engaged over the weekend! And our friends Roxi and Daryl got engaged in December 🙂
So much love and happiness is blooming all around us, I LOVE weddings!
I am actually a tiny bit jealous of Genine and Roxi, because they get to go through the whole planning process for their weddings. It took me a few months, but once you get into it, there’s no looking back. Wedding planning is addictive! (Well, for me at least!)
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 3,300 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 6 years to get that many views.
I don’t think that it was by coincidence that I happened to stumble upon The Rose Cafe in Newlands a few months ago. I knew immediately after walking into the shop that this place would understand what I was looking for!
The vintage pieces and homey decor inside the store confirmed that my Vintage Elegance theme would be a piece of cake for them, and of course all the lovely colourful roses made me swoon!
Before the wedding planning began, I was not into flowers. I could appreciated them, but I wasn’t mad over them. Now I LOVE flowers! When I walk past flower shops or see beautiful bouquets at Woolies, I get excited….Strange!
I can blame the quoting process for this – lots of time spent at the florist – seeing, smelling and touching a variety of flowers was lots of fun!
Initially when I started with my flowers quote, my wedding colours were Salmon and Ivory. Along the way that changed to Teal and Cerise. So there was a lot of up and down and quote changes when it came to my flowers! Thank goodness I found a florist who was able to keep up with my messy brain and indecisive thoughts!
Thank you to Chloe and the owner, Angie! You ladies are really creative geniuses and I can’t wait to see my flowers in April next year! 🙂
Brides to be in Cape Town: You should really contact The Rose Cafe, they are awesome! They work with all types of flowers, their prices are reasonable, and they are super helpful!
